- Connectivity- Towns like Manali, Shimla, and Dharamshala have decent mobile and Wi-Fi coverage. However, remote areas like Spiti, Tirthan, or Kinnaur may have weak or no signal, so embrace the digital detox.
- Food and Water- Enjoy simple and hearty mountain fare, think momos, rajma-chawal, and thukpa. Drink only bottled or filtered water, and eat at trusted cafes or pre-recommended places.
- Cultural Etiquette- Himachalis are warm and respectful. Greet with a smile and “Namaste.” Dress modestly in villages and religious sites, and always ask before photographing locals.
- Health Precautions- Carry basic medicines, altitude sickness tablets for Spiti or Lahaul, and motion sickness pills for winding roads. Avoid overexertion on your first day in higher altitudes.
- Local Laws- Alcohol is available, but avoid drinking in public or nature spots. Cannabis grows wild here, but its use is strictly illegal. Respect forest boundaries and local customs.
- Eco-Responsibility- Protect Himachal’s fragile ecosystems, carry your trash back, avoid plastic, stick to marked trails, and say no to bonfires in forest areas.
